Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE- The Lincoln Saltdogs hammered Sioux City 11-1 Wednesday night at Haymarket Park, beating the Explorers for the third game in a row. The Saltdogs also turned four double plays in the contest, improving their second-half record to 5-4.

Lincoln started the scoring explosion in the second inning, against Sioux City All-Star pitcher Paige Dumont (4-2). Shawn McGill led off with a bunt single, and Matt Maloney followed by laying down a sacrifice bunt and reaching first safely on an error. That set the stage for Mario Delgado, who blasted a three-run home run over the left-field fence. Skip Adams and Jonny Kaplan would add RBI hits later in the frame as the Saltdogs opened up a 5-0 lead.

Sioux City finally got on the board with a run in the fifth, but Lincoln answered right back in the bottom half of the inning on Maloney's leadoff homer. The Saltdogs then blew the game wide open in the seventh. Omar Bramasco hit a two-out RBI single to make the lead 7-1, and Adams followed with another three-run blast to give Lincoln a 10-1 advantage. Curt Miaso closed out the scoring in the eighth inning with a solo homer of his own, providing the final margin.

On the mound, Ryan Trytten (4-4) pitched five-plus innings, allowing one run on four hits. Trytten, though, had to leave the game two pitches into the sixth inning with an apparent leg injury. Brian Campbell and Daryl Arreola combined for four scoreless innings of relief to close out the contest. Sioux City had eight hits on the night, but they grounded into double plays in the fourth and eighth innings, and lined into twin killings in the sixth and seventh innings.

On the night, Maloney finished 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, and fell a triple shy of the cycle. Adams went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Kaplan, Miaso and McGill also had two hits apiece.

The Saltdogs and Explorers play the finale of their four-game series Thursday night at 7:05. Jason Jarvis is scheduled to make the start for Lincoln.
