Fort Worth Cats News Release
John Allen and Nelson Teilon each homered as the Cats topped Pensacola 5-1 on Wednesday night at LaGrave Field. The win was the Cats' third in a row, as they improved their second-half record to 7-2.
Allen got the Cats' on the scoreboard in the second inning as he hit a deep fly ball to right-center. The right fielder Josh Morgan went back to the wall and had the ball hit off his glove as he made contact with the fence. The ball shot toward the right-field line and Allen circled the bases for the Cats' second inside-the-park home run this week.
The Cats benefitted from a more conventional home run in the third inning as Nelson Teilon hit a liner on to the berm in left, a two-run shot to make it 3-0 Fort Worth. It was Teilon's 11th dinger of the year, moving him into sole possession of third place in the league.
The Pelicans only run came in the sixth inning as Cesar Aranguren singled home Morgan to reduce the Cats lead to 3-1.
The Cats added a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Ed Montague and one in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Charles Carter for a 5-1 advantage.
Lee Gwaltney (7-0) got the win as he permitted a run on six hits in seven innings pitched. Pensacola starter John Webb (5-4) took the loss as he allowed three runs on five hits in five innings.
Kyle Yates notched his second save of the year as he worked two scoreless innings to finish the game. The Cats turned five double plays in the game including a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.
The Cats go for a four-game sweep of the Pelicans on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Ryan Riddle goes for the Cats and is opposed by left-hander Dan Smith for the Pelicans.
