Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs took two games out of three at Sioux Falls this week, winning 11-8 on Wednesday. Lincoln improves to 27-17 on the season.

The Saltdogs trailed 1-0 after four innings, but exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth after the first two batters were retired by Pheasants starter Ben Moore (6-4). Chris Brown doubled and scored on Gavin Dickey's single, with Dickey advancing to second on a throwing error. Albenis Machado reached on a critical error that allowed Dickey to score, and Juan Richardson brought Machado home with an RBI double. Argelis Nunez followed with a run-scoring double of his own, and Rafael Alvarez capped the scoring with a two-run home run, his second of the season. The 'Dogs added two more in the sixth on Richardson's single, and tacked on three in the seventh on RBI hits by Roberto Alvarez, Brandon Jones and Dickey.

That appeared to be more than enough for Lincoln starter Jim Paduch (4-3), who put together one of his best starts of the season. Paduch allowed just one run on six hits, walking just one and striking out five. He departed after seven innings with an 11-1 lead.

Sioux Falls refused to go quietly, however, scoring six runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull within 11-7. They tacked on an unearned run in the ninth, and had the tying run at the plate with two out, but Chris Thompson got Trevor Lawhorn to fly out and end the game.

With the win, the Saltdogs move to two games behind first-place Sioux Falls in the American Association North. Both teams have four games remaining in the first-half race.

Rafael Alvarez finished the night 3-for-5 with the home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Richardson went 2-for-6 and drove in three runs. Nunez, Dickey and Shawn McGill all had three hits apiece as well, while Brown went 4-for-5 and scored twice.

Lincoln heads home for a four-game series against Pensacola that begins Thursday night at 7:05pm. The Saltdogs' starter has not been announced.
