Sioux City 4, Wichita 2
The Sioux City Explorers rolled out a 3-0 lead after a half an inning and that would be more than enough to take care of the Wichita Wingnuts, 4-2. Explorers CF Dustin Jones led the way at the plate going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Sioux City 1B Kent Sakamoto and SS Darrick Hale each chipped in with two hits apiece as well. Explorers starting pitcher Mikael Ryder tossed a solid game en route to evening his record up at 4-4. Ryder pitched eight innings allowing only one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts. Wichita DH Mario Delgado went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI in the loss.
El Paso at Fort Worth (Cancelled/Rain)
Last night in game two of the doubleheader, El Paso was leading Fort Worth 4-0 in the top of the third inning when play was suspended due to rain. The game resumed on Wednesday and they played for another inning and a half before play was again suspended due to rain. Since the two teams do not meet again in the first half, these games are canceled and therefore will not be made up.
St. Paul 3, Pensacola 2
St. Paul starting pitcher Jacob Schmidt allowed two runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings to lead the Saints past Pensacola, 3-2. With the win, Schmidt ran his record to 5-3 on the season. St. Paul reliever Mike Meyer took the ball in the ninth inning and tossed a scoreless frame to earn his first save. Saints 1B Ole Sheldon hit a two-run home run and was 1-for-4 to lead the way offensively. RF Jason Cooper also had a good game, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a RBI.
Lincoln 11, Sioux Falls 8
With the game seemingly well in hand, Lincoln survived a fierce rally late in the game to hold off Sioux Falls. Trailing, 11-1, the Pheasants plated six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to narrow the gap to 11-7 and added a run in the ninth before falling 11-8. RF Rafael Alvarez led the way at the plate for Lincoln, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Saltdogs starting pitcher Jim Paduch allowed one run on six hits while striking out five in seven innings to earn the win and improve to 4-3 on the year.
