SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants gave up a season-high 22 hits and dropped their first series of the year at home in a 11-8 thumping from the Lincoln Saltdogs.

With the loss the Pheasants lost a game in their division lead. The second-place Saltdogs are two games behind with four remaining in the first half.

Pheasants starter Ben Moore (6-4) cruised through the first 4 2/3 innings, recording eight strikeouts and holding the Saltdogs to no runs and four hits. But the Saltdogs exploded for a six-run, two-out rally in the fifth. A fielding error from Moore while covering first base allowed Gavin Dickey, the go-ahead run, to score. The Saltdogs pounded out two more doubles and a two-run home run from Rafael Alvarez for a 6-1 lead.

The Saltdogs added five more runs in the sixth and seventh innings on seven singles and a double. Moore left after the sixth to take the loss. Despite allowing eight runs - three earned - and 13 hits, he matched a season high with 10 strikeouts.

The Pheasants rallied for six runs in the eighth inning, including a bases-clearing, three-run double from Will Richards. Reggie Abercrombie added a sacrifice fly in the ninth. The Pheasants brought the tying run to the plate after a Reggie Abercrombie sacrifice fly in the ninth, but closer Chris Thompson got Trevor Lawhorn to fly out to center field to end the ball game.

Jim Paduch (4-3) picked up the win for Lincoln. He allowed one run on six hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out five.

The Pheasants begin a four-game series with the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, in Sioux City. The game will be broadcast live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
