Saltdogs Fall To RedHawks

Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs fell short in another preseason game on Sunday, losing 7-3 to Fargo-Moorhead at Haymarket Park. Lincoln drops to 0-3 in exhibition play.

Sunday marked the second straight day the two championship teams faced each other; the Saltdogs won the American Association title in 2009, while the RedHawks won the Northern League crown. This time, however, it was Lincoln that scored first, on Chris Brown's two-out RBI single in the second inning. That was the only run allowed by Fargo starter Darren Byrd (1-0) in his three innings of work.

Saltdogs starter Chris Britton (0-1) gave up just one hit over his first two innings of work, but the RedHawks touched him for four runs in his third and final frame. Jay Cox hit a two-run single to put Fargo in front, Jesse Hoorelbeke followed with an RBI groundout, and Jeff Corsaletti capped the inning with an RBI single of his own.

Lincoln fought back to pull within one in the fifth inning, plating a pair of runs. Albenis Machado led off with a double, and scored one out later on a Phil Hawke RBI single. Rafael Alvarez singled, moving Hawke to third, and Argelis Nuñez smacked an RBI double. The Saltdogs stranded runners on second and third in the frame, though-two of the 11 runners they left on base during the contest.

The RedHawks put the game away with three more runs in the seventh. Zach Penprase had the big blow in the inning, driving a two-run triple into the right-field corner. He would come home via a dropped fly ball on the next play to end the scoring for the night.

Lincoln's Jim Paduch, who'll start on Opening Day in Sioux Falls this Thursday, turned in the best outing for a Saltdogs pitcher. He tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out seven. Donald Furrow, Chris Cullen and Adam Daniels pitched one scoreless inning each for the 'Dogs. Fargo got a combined 4.1 scoreless innings of relief out of Adam Tollefson, Casey Hoorelbeke, J.J. Pacella and Donnie Smith.

At the plate, Gavin Dickey and Chris Brown each had a two-hit night for the Saltdogs. Jeff Corsaletti and Carlo Cota did the same for the RedHawks.

Season Ten of Saltdogs Baseball begins on May 13 in Sioux Falls, with the home opener scheduled for May 25 against Wichita. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com .
