Pheasants Look Sharp In Shutout Exhibition Win

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants pitching staff combined for a two-hit shutout Sunday to beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 3-0.

Seven pitchers appeared in the scheduled 11-inning game and combined for seven strikeouts on just two hits allowed. Travis Kane (1-0), the first reliever in the game, was credited with the win. In three innings, he allowed no runs, two hits, and one walk while striking out one.

Chris Salberg started the game and tossed four innings of no-hit ball. Aaron Cotter, Tyler Heil, David Hurst, and Andrew Pluta each made one-inning appearances as well. Cotter earned his first save of the exhibition season.

Sioux Falls took the lead in the third inning and never lost it on a run-scoring single from newcomer Reggie Abercrombie that scored Joe Anthonsen. Trever Lawhorn added an RBI-single in the fourth, and Brandon Sing hit a solo home run in the sixth, his third in two games.

Goldeyes starter Antony Bello (0-1) took the loss.

The two-game series concludes tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Sioux Falls Stadium. Admission is free to the public.

The Fighting Pheasants will begin their 18th season at 7:05 p.m at home on Thursday, May 13. The Pheasants are members of the American Association, a 10-team independent professional baseball league that will play its fifth season this summer.
