HURON, S.D. - You might want to call it "Sing" Training.

The Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants defeated the Sioux City Explorers on Saturday, 6-1, in their exhibition opener off two home runs from new acquisition Brandon Sing.

Sioux Falls took the early lead on a run-scoring single from rookie Kevin Carby in the second inning. But veteran Brandon Sing provided the dramatics and pounded a three-run home run in the bottom of the third to extend the lead, 4-0, and he added another two-run blast in the fifth. Sing finished 2-for-4 with 5 RBI.

The Explorers added two runs in the ninth off a two-run double from Darrick Hale.

Starter Ben Moore (1-0) was very effective for the Pheasants. He allowed just one run on three hits and struck out five in five innings of work. Sioux City starter Jae Jung (0-1) took the loss.

Sioux Falls hosts the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the independent Northern League at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow at Sioux Falls Stadium for their second exhibition game of the season.

The Fighting Pheasanats will begin their 18th season at 7:05 p.m at home on Thursday, May 13. The Pheasants are members of the American Association, a 10-team independent professional baseball league that will play its fifth season this summer.
