Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs lost the final game of the season's first homestand on Sunday, dropping a 5-3 decision to Wichita at Haymarket Park. The Wingnuts took two games out of three, in the first-ever series between the two franchises.

The game was delayed by rain for an hour and 47 minutes in the fourth inning, as a severe thunderstorm blew through Lincoln. The game was tied at two at that point, but Wichita struck first after the long delay, scoring a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Brenan Herrera. The Saltdogs struck back in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Luis Perez, but the Wingnuts took the lead for good in the eighth. Kevin Hooper singled and stole second with one out, and scored an out later on a double by Michael Thompson. The two-bagger made a loser out of Lincoln reliever Ryan Dittfurth (1-1), who then allowed a solo homer to Heath Keel in the ninth to produce the final margin.

The Saltdogs got another quality start out of Jarrett Gardner, who allowed three runs on six hits in six innings while striking out five. At the plate, Perez went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two stolen bases. During its nine-game homestand, Lincoln went 7-2, and reached double digits in hits for six of the nine contests.

After an off-day on Monday, the Saltdogs head to Sioux City on Tuesday for the first of a three-game series. Righty Brian Campbell is scheduled to make the start Tuesday night for Lincoln.

The Saltdogs' second homestand of the season begins on June 3rd. For team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
