Pelicans Score Three in the Bottom of Ninth for First Place Share

The Pensacola Pelicans would score three runs in their final at-bat to come from behind and defeat the El Paso Diablos 6-5. In a game where the score was back and forth all night, the Pelicans found themselves on the winning end in front of 3,230, the fifth largest crowd in franchise history.

In the bottom of the ninth, Brandon Sing walked to get things started for the Pelicans, down 5-3. With one out, Billy Cox came up and belted El Paso's closer Chris Thompson's pitch over the left centerfield fence for a game tying two run homerun. After consecutive singles by Dylan Parzyk and Scott Madsen, Sean Gamble would walk to load the bases. An El Paso pitching change would bring in El Paso's Paul Schmidt. Ricardo Cordova wasted no time, knocking the first pitch he saw into right field for a walk off 6-5 Pelican win. The Pelicans are now tied atop the South Division with El Paso.

The Pelicans scored first as they loaded the bases in the bottom of the third on a Matt Pali single and a pair of walks by Brandon Sing and Billy Cox. El Paso's Beau Hintz would walk Cesar Aranguren for the third consecutive walk in the inning to bring in Pali to score the Pelicans first run of the game.

El Paso would strike right back in the top half of the third inning when Bryon Smith took the first pitch he saw from Pelican's starter Dane DeValk into the left field party deck to lead off the inning. The Diablos would take the lead on a bases loaded sac fly by Stantrel Smith which would score Mat Kent.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ricardo Cordova and Matt Pali lead off the inning with singles through the right side. Rafael Alvarez would tie the game at two as he drove in Cordova on a sacrifice fly to left.

The Diablos would jump on top and take a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh. A Kory Drew double down the left field line would score Albenis Machado who walked.

Rafael Alvarez singled to lead off the Pelicans seventh. Billy Cox followed up with a walk to put Alvarez in scoring position. A Cesar Aranguren single up the middle would drive in Alvarez to tie up the game at three.

Derek Tillman would come in relief for the Pelicans in the top of the eighth inning. The Diablos would knock out four singles in the inning scoring Mat Kent and Alex Derhak giving them a 5-3 lead over the Pelicans until the three-run ninth for the Pelicans.

Dustin Cameron recorded his first win of the season as he pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
