According to atlantabraves.com former Myrtle Beach Pelicans star Jarrod Saltalamacchia will jump from Double-A Mississippi to to the Atlanta Braves tonight and will make his Major League Debut on his 22nd birthday tonight against the Philadelphia Phillies. Salty is listed as the Braves #1 prospect and was the Pelicans MVP in 2005 after hitting .314 with 19 home runs and a club record 81 RBIs. Jarrod will become the 52nd former Pelican in the 8+ years of franchise history to play in the Major Leagues.
With former Pelican and current Braves all-star catcher Brian McCann suffering an injury last night and another former Pelican Brayan Pena also nicked up the Braves have flown 2005 Pelicans MVP Jarrod Saltalamacchia to Turner Field from Double-A Mississippi and will throw him into the starting line-up to make his Major League debut tonight. Salty is hitting .309 with six homers and a .617 slugging percentage at Mississippi this year. What does all of this mean for current Pelicans catcher Clint Sammons?
