Salem's Two-Man Attack Falls in Frederick 6-3

Salem Red Sox News Release
Frederick, MD (June 5, 2011) - Kolbrin Vitek went 3-4 and Dan Butler went 2-4 with three RBI, but the rest of the lineup went hitless against three Keys hurlers in Salem's 6-3 setback on Sunday afternoon at Harry Grove Stadium. Frederick starter Nick Haughian pitched into the seventh and recorded his second victory of the season, with Will Startup tossing two scoreless innings to set up Sean Gleason for his 14th save.
Butler belted a two-run bomb in the top of the first to give Salem an early 2-zip edge, and Salem starter Drake Britton retired nine of the first 11 he faced through three innings to make the lead stand up. But the Keys finally scratched Britton for a run in the fourth before knocking him out of the game in the fifth. Though Britton pitched well for the most part, he left with two runners on base, both of which scored, leaving him with the ugly stat line of five runs on seven hits over four innings.
Jonathan Schoop, just promoted up from Low-A Delmarva, went 2-4 with a pair of RBI singles to lead the way for the Keys. Garabez Rosa also blasted a solo homer off Britton to lead off the four-run fifth. Trent Mummey and Bobby Stevens singled in succession, serving as the prelude to Tyler Townsend's RBI double that gave Frederick a 3-2 lead and knocked Britton from the ballgame.
Anatanaer Batista entered and let the two inherited runners score, then pitched two scoreless innings before leaving with a man on in the seventh. Kendal Volz could not prevent his inherited runner from crossing, giving Frederick a 6-3 lead.
Vitek and Butler went a combined 5-8, while the other seven members of the lineup went 0-24.
After winning three of the first five meetings against Frederick this season, Salem has now dropped seven straight against the Keys, including sweeps on consecutive weekends.
Salem's 19-game road trip continues on Monday in Lynchburg, with the Red Sox and Hillcats beginning a four-game series at City Stadium. Salem will start major league rehabber Junichi Tazawa opposite Hillcats righthander Aaron Shafer, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
