Myrtle Beach Pelicans Game Notes

June 5, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

The Pelicans wrap up a seven-game road trip with the rubber game of three in Lynchburg against the Hillcats. First pitch at City Stadium is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. and game notes are attached.

LHP Robbie Ross (6-1, 2.48) at LHP Matt Crim (1-3, 4.60)

THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD: Last night's loss ensured a losing road trip for the Pelicans. Still, a win today can give them the series win and end the trip on a high note at 3-4. The Pelicans have gone 3-4 in their other two multi-series road trips. They went 3-4 in Potomac and Salem in the first week of May and two weeks ago they went 3-4 in Winston-Salem and Wilmington.

SCOREBOARD WATCHING: The Pelicans loss was doubly bad last night as the Kinston Indians won 8-1 in Winston-Salem to move one game closer to Myrtle Beach in the Southern Division standings. The K-Tribe cut the Birds' lead to three and a half games. The Pelicans stayed five and a half games up on the Salem Red Sox, who lost 4-1 in Frederick. While the K-Tribe is turning up the heat on the Pelicans to close the first half, Myrtle Beach is still in control. Even an 8-7 finish for the Birds would force Kinston to go 12-4 in their last 16 to tie for the first-half crown.

NOT LEFT OUT: Pelicans catcher Zach Zaneski continued to torment Carolina League southpaws last night. Chris Masters was the lastest victim as "Z" rapped three hits, including a go-ahead home run to center field, in the loss. For the season, the former Rhode Island Ram is hitting .467 (21-45) with five doubles and all six of his home runs off lefties.
