June 5, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys defeated the Salem Red Sox, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon as they swept the Red Sox away for the second consecutive weekend. Promoted earlier in the day, Jonathan Schoop drove in two runs in the Frederick victory. LHP Nick Haughian notched his second victory of the season after he allowed three runs over six innings. With the win, the Keys improved to 33-22 and lead the Wilmington Blue Rocks by four and a half games in the Northern Division of the Carolina League.

Salem struck first in the game on a two-run shot by C Dan Butler. Haughian settled down after the Butler long ball and retired the next 16 Red Sox batters in order.

Facing LHP Drake Britton on Sunday, Frederick got on the board in the fourth inning. With LF Kipp Schutz on second and RF Tyler Kolodny on first, Jonathan Schoop singled home Schutz to cut the Keys' deficit in half. Prior to his promotion, Schoop hit .316 in Class-A Delmarva with eight home runs and 34 RBI in 51 games.

Frederick took the lead against Britton in the bottom of fifth. SS Garabez Rosa blasted a solo shot to left field to lead off the rally. Rosa's first home runs since April 12th tied the game at two. CF Trent Mummey followed with a bunt single and 2B Bobby Stevens reached on an infield single. 1B Tyler Townsend then closed the book on Britton's start with a RBI ground rule down the right field line. Both Stevens and Townsend would come to score in the inning as the Keys led by three after five innings.

The Red Sox showed some life in the top of the seventh when 3B Kolbrin Vitek doubled to left-center. The Vitek double ended Haughian's streak of consecutive Sox retired at 16. C Dan Butler singled home Vitek and also ended Haughian's afternoon. LHP Will Startup relieved Haughian and retired all six batters he faced.

Haughian tossed 6+ innings on Sunday allowing three runs on four hits while striking out two and walking none.

Jonathan Schoop erased the Salem's run in the top of the seventh with a RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Schoop finished up the game 2-for-4 with two RBI.

RHP Sean Gleason closed out the Keys 10th win in 11 games with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Keys hit the road on Monday when they travel to Woodbridge, VA for a four-game set against the Potomac Nationals. RHP Bobby Bundy (5-3, 2.91) will take the hill for Frederick while Potomac turns to RHP Trevor Hurley (2-6, 6.55). First pitch from Pfitzner Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
