Iowa Cubs News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - The Iowa Cubs (43-52) allowed four unanswered runs to fall to the St. Paul Saints (45-49) by a score of 5-4, Thursday at CHS Field.
Iowa got on the board first, scoring in each of the first three frames against starter Mario Sanchez. Narciso Crook started it off with an RBI triple in the first followed by a solo home run from John Hicks in the second, taking a 2-0 lead.
The Saints cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Braden Bishop. The run marked the end of 14.0 scoreless innings thrown by starter Sean Newcomb.
It was the only run he would allow, as the southpaw spun four innings allowing just the one runs on three hits and three walks while striking out eight. He got two more runs of support in the third on RBI doubles from Crook and Matt Mervis.
The I-Cubs' 4-1 lead held until the fifth, when José Godoy welcomed Matt Swarmer into the game with a solo home run. They cut the lead to one in the sixth on another RBI ground out from Bishop.
Jermaine Palacios hit a solo home run in the eighth to tie the game and the Saints completed the comeback with a walk-off single by Tim Beckham in the bottom of the ninth to take a 2-1 series lead.
