LAST TIME OUT
ROCHESTER, NY - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (47-48) took their second straight over the Rochester Red Wings with a 7-4 win on Wednesday. Both Miguel Andújar and Jake Bauers hit massive multi-run homers to lead the RailRiders' offensive charge.
JP Sears was making his first RailRiders appearance since June 21 after pitching four times in the bigs. After retiring the first eight batters consecutively to start the game, Sears allowed his only hit, a double to Jecksson Flores. The southpaw tossed 3.2 innings of shutout baseball.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. The Red Wings plated three in the inning, keyed by David Dahl's first homer in the Nationals' organization for a 3-0 lead. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre responded with a five spot in the top half of the seventh. After a fielder's choice brought home SWB's first run, Andújar left little doubt with a towering homer to left field. The three-run blast gave the RailRiders their first lead, 4-3. Josh Breaux followed the pace with an RBI single to make it 5-3 in the inning. After Rochester responded with a run in their half of the seventh inning, Bauers matched Andújar's no-doubter with a 424-foot homer to right-center, extending the lead to 7-4 in the eighth.
Zach Greene (7-0) took over the team lead with his seventh win, going 1.2 innings in relief. The loss was charged to Luis Avilán (0-1). Greg Weissert tossed the ninth and picked up his 11th save in 12 tries. His scoreless streak has now lasted 16 games and 15.2 innings.
