Saints Stay Perfect on Military Appreciation Night.
Josh Maniscalco scores game-winner.
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Saints needed an extra effort in the third period, and got it. Josh Maniscalco tallied the game-winning goal with just four and a half minutes to play in the third period to help the Dubuque Fighting Saints to a 3-2 win at the Mystique Community Ice Center on Friday night. The Saints are now a perfect 8-0-0 in Military Appreciation Night games.
After a flurry between Jan Kern and Bauer Neudecker and his opportunity stopped by Madison goaltender Dryden McKay, Kern found Maniscalco creeping in from the point, and he blasted the puck from the right circle over the blocker of McKay for the eventual game-winning goal. The Saints had to hold on the rest of the way against one of the best third period teams in the league.
The Saints never trailed in this game, but Madison found a way to get even twice.
Alex Steeves' point streak continued on this night as he started the scoring. Down the wing on his own opportunity and forced to the corner, he threw the puck to the net and it found a way through the pads of McKay and past the red line for the opening goal. #SteeverStreak now stands at eight games, and it includes five goals and seven assists.
Alec Broetzman responded in the second period for the Capitols at the 7:03 mark. Shot out of a cannon down the wing with just one second on the power play, he roofed a shot over *Jaxon Castor* and under the bar to tie the game.
The Saints responded two minutes later. Following a steal high in the zone by *Dalton Hunter*, Neudecker found Kern on the back post with the easy tap-in en route to the 2-1 lead. That lead lasted six minutes, as Mick Messner converted on a Fighting Saints turnover and bad line change, assisted by Brendan Walkom.
The Saints' three-game losing streak came to an end on this night, getting the team back to the .500 mark at 5-5-2. Castor made 23 saves to help cement the win. McKay kept the Caps in it with 30 saves on the night.
