Skate with the Steel following Saturday's game vs. Madison

Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The forecast is calling for a downpour of stuffed animals this weekend! The Chicago Steel will host their annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by Geneva Family Dental on Saturday, Dec. 9 when the team faces off against the Madison Capitols. After the game, all fans are invited to Skate with the Steel. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

Fans are encouraged to throw new, unwrapped stuffed animals on the ice as soon as the Steel score their first goal of the game. The toys will be donated to Marklund, a local nonprofit organization that serves infants, children, teens and adults with serious and profound developmental disabilities and special healthcare needs.

The Teddy Bear Toss has become an extremely popular tradition for junior and minor-league hockey teams over the past couple decades. Some fans throw a single bear toward the ice, while others have been known to bring large quantities by the bag, with all the stuffed friends going to a great cause. Even teddy bears larger than humans have made the leap over the glass to the ice. The toss causes a brief delay in the game while players help to quickly corral all the stuffed animals to later be taken for donation.

"Every year when the schedule comes out, we quickly circle the Teddy Bear Toss on the calendar," said Steel President Dan Lehv. "Our fans have embraced this junior hockey tradition and the charities involved, and we're especially grateful this year to Dr. Melissa Jentz-Cote and her team at Geneva Family Dental for sponsoring this event."

Saturday marks the second Skate with the Steel event of the season. Fans are invited onto the ice after the game to meet and get autographs from Steel players. Those that do not bring their own skates to the arena can rent them from the Fox Valley Ice Arena for $4.

Aside from the exciting action on the ice between the Steel and the Capitols, a number of exciting off-ice promotions and activities will take place including the McCue Chevy Family Challenge in which two hockey families compete in an on-ice relay during intermission.

This Saturday's game also marks "Cyclones Night" for players, parents and coaches of the Cyclones Amateur Hockey Association, based at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Cyclones families can receive a special offer on tickets to the game, and winners of the Cyclones' annual raffle will be announced during the second intermission.

Tickets are on sale now for Saturday's game. Advance tickets for all Steel games start at just $10, and parking is always free.

Saturday is Chicago's final home game prior to the holiday break, and is the first of five contests this season against the Capitols. The Steel (10-4-1-2) are currently in a first-place tie with Youngstown atop the Eastern Conference, with each team earning 23 points.

The Steel 10-Pack is on sale now for a limited time. For just $95, receive 10 undated ticket vouchers for 2017-2018 Steel home games, plus a Chicago Steel holiday ornament!
