Saints Sign Two Former Top Four Draft Picks

ST. PAUL, MN (June 23, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints have plucked two former top four draft picks as they signed free agent outfielder Josh Womack and left-handed pitcher Mark Romanczuk.. .

Womack, 24, was a second round pick of the Seattle Mariners in 2002, and will help an outfield stung by injuries to Pichi Balet and Marcel Longmire, as he joins the Saints after hitting .333 in 12 at-bats with Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. He had one double, one triple, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. Womack was one for eight with one RBI while playing with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx.

Womack, a two-time minor league all-star, hit a home run in his professional game with the Mariners of the Arizona League in 2005. He has played six professional seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization, and has a hitting streak of twenty-two games to his credit.

The 24-year-old Romanczuk was a fourth round selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2005 and reached Single-A South Bend in 2007. He was 4-3 with a 3.73 ERA in 33 games (six starts) and one save in 2007. In 33 games he pitched 72.1 innings walking 30 and striking out 59. He missed the entire 2006 season with an ulnar nerve transposition.

The Saints placed outfielder Scooter Jordan on the inactive list after he broke his thumb diving for a ball in the outfield during Sunday's game. Jordan hit .261 with no homers and 14 RBI in 40 games. In 157 at bats he had two doubles, a triple, swiped nine bases with a slugging percentage of .287 and an on base percentage of .372.

Infielder Kyle Resser was released after going 1-8 with two RBI in three games.

The Saints roster now stands at 21 players, 11 pitchers and 10 position players. The Saints can carry a maximum of 22 players.
