St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (June 23, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints picked a bad time to get blanked for the first time this season losing 3-0 to the Lincoln Saltdogs on Monday night at Midway Stadium in front of 6,030.

Saltdogs starter Jarrett Gardner was coming off a complete game victory in his last start and he stymied the Saints all night long. He hurled 7.2 shutout innings allowing six hits while walking one and striking out five. The biggest noise the Saints made all night was in the second when Kevin Sullivan and Brent Krause had back-to-back singles with one out. Ben Thomas then blasted a ball to right that went off the wall, but Sullivan had to hold at second to make sure the ball wouldn't be caught and he went no further than third. With the bases loaded Andrew Bennett struck out and Ryan Priddy ripped one to left that former Saint Skip Adams made a running catch with his arm stretched out.

The Saltdogs got on the board in the fourth when Mario Delgado drilled one over the left-center field wall, his sixth of the season to give the Saltdogs a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth Matt Maloney led off with a solo homer to left giving the Saltdogs a 2-0 lead. Saints starter Justin Lord pitched well going 6.2 innings allowing three runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out four.

The same two teams meet Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. in the second game of the series. The Saints send LHP Luis Villarreal (3-2, 2.87) to the mound against Saltdogs RHP Brian Campbell (4-2, 4.47). It is "Cow" abunga Dudes! night presented by Minnetronix. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network (check saintsbaseball.com for the channel in your area) and heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
