
Saginaw Spirit Fall to Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre

The Saginaw Spirit fell to the Guelph Storm 5-3 after a tough battle at the Sleeman Centre on Sunday, October 19th.
The Saginaw Spirit opened the scoring late in the first period on a nice backhand by Nick Moutrey at the 16:04 mark, with the assist going to Dylan Sadowy. At 19:18 of the period the Storm tied the score at one on a goal by Tyler Bertuzzi. Phil Baltisberger had the lone assist on the play. Shots on goal after the first period favor Saginaw 16-9.
The second period saw an early goal by the Spirit when Artem Artemov hit the back of the net at 1:34, with the help of Luke Cairns and Marcus Crawford. The teams traded goals as Guelph recovered midway through the period on a shorthanded goal by Robby Fabbri at the 7:26 mark, tying the game 2-2. Spirit's Artem Artemov saw his second goal of the game on a power play effort at 16:21 of the period, pulling Saginaw ahead of Guelph 3-2. Luke Cairns assisted his second goal of the game, along with Jimmy Lodge. At 18:57 of the second period Guelph tied the game at three on a goal by Stephen Pierog. Tyler Bertuzzi and Noah Carroll both assisted the play. Shots on goal after the second period Saginaw 10, Guelph 9.
The game did not see another goal until the midway point of the third period when Robby Fabbri broke the 3-3 tie at 9:02 for the Storm. Zac Leslie and Noah Carroll assisted the play. Austin Hall gave the Storm a two-goal cushion against the Spirit at 13:27 of the period with assists going to line mates Tyler Bertuzzi and Garrett McFadden. The final score read Guelph 5, Saginaw 3. Final shots on goal 34-31 Saginaw.
The Saginaw Spirit will travel to the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Thursday, October 23rd to take on the Peterborough Petes. Puck is scheduled to drop at 7:05 p.m. The Spirit will return to the Dow Event Center on Saturday, November 1st when they take on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Military Appreciation Night.
