
Sacramento River Cats Hold Celebration Of Jackie Robinson Night

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 15, 2010 - On Monday, April 19, the Sacramento River Cats will celebrate the anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the Major League Baseball color barrier before playing host to the Reno Aces (Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks) at 7:05 p.m.
Celebration of Jackie Robinson Night will pay tribute to the Brooklyn Dodgers' legend with a pregame recognition and presentation from former Negro League players, Elmer Carter and Don Porter. Fans are asked to arrive early to hear from Branch B. Rickey III, President of the PCL and grandson of Branch Rickey, who signed Jackie Robinson with the Dodgers in 1947. Rickey will be speaking at approximately 6:10 p.m. at the Foul Ball Patio.
In addition, the River Cats announce their "Character is What You Do When No One Is Looking" essay contest for Grade 1-8 students in the Sacramento area. Participants are encouraged to share their personal experiences and thoughts about how they express good character and strong values like those of Jackie Robinson.
All essay participants will be recognized prior the River Cats game on Tuesday, June 29th at 11:35 a.m. The grand prize winner of the essay contest will be awarded a nightly suite for 16 family members and/or friends. Official essay registration forms can be found at www.rivercats.com. Completed essays and registration forms are due and postmarked no later than Friday, June 11.
