LH Michael Kirkman (0-0, 7.20) vs. LH Andy Van Hekken (1-0, 0.00)
TONIGHT: The Oklahoma City RedHawks seek a winning record in their 8-game opening homestand with a series finale against the Round Rock Express (Houston Astros). OKC leads this series 2-1 and the homestand 4-3 after splitting with Albuquerque last week. Yesterday, Chad Tracy's solo shot in the sixth broke a 1-1 logjam as OKC drew off to win 6-3. OKC is tied with New Orleans and Albuquerque for the American South lead, 2 games up on Round Rock. Lefty Michael Kirkman makes his second Triple-A start for the RedHawks against Round Rock southpaw Andy Van Hekken. His only other appearance against OKC was on Aug. 27, 2006 as an Omaha Royal, dropping a doubleheader nightcap 4-2.
ANOTHER MCCARTHY MASTERPIECE: OKC righthander Brandon McCarthy went 7 innings yesterday to earn the win, allowing 1 run on 2 hits. McCarthy has gone 7 innings in both 2010 starts, allowing just 2 total runs on 7 hits. He and Derek Holland have combined for all four of OKC's quality starts (two each) in the first 7 games.
STRETCH RUNS: OKC has scored 36 runs this season and 17 have come in the seventh and eighth innings. OKC has plated 10 runs in the seventh inning alone, including one yesterday.
BIG EIGHTH, PART 2: The RedHawks took a 3-2 lead into yesterday's bottom of the eighth inning and scored 3 runs, their second multiple-run eighth inning in as many games. On Tuesday, the RedHawks pushed across 4 insurance runs in a 6-0 win.
OFFENSE REMAINS ON TOP: OKC's .310 team batting average is tops among PCL clubs through 7 games. The RedHawks also lead the team categories in on-base percentage (.396) and slugging (.504). OKC is tied for fifth in runs with 36.
STREAKERS: Andy Jenkins has reached base by hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in all 7 games this season. Matt Brown has 5-game hitting and 6-game on-base streaks in progress. Hernan Iribarren has hit safely in all 5 games he has played (7-for-18, .389), while Justin Smoak has built a 5-game hitting streak (8-for-24, .333). Esteban German had a season-long 6-game hitting streak snapped yesterday.
MEET THE CORCORANS: RedHawks home run leader Chad Tracy has 3 round trippers this season and all have come against the Corcoran family. Tracy hit two homers on Saturday off of Albuquerque's Tim Corcoran. Tracy added a go-ahead, solo shot yesterday against Tim's younger brother Roy of Round Rock.
LATE INNING HEROICS: OKC has 8 home runs as a team and all have come in the sixth inning or later. Four have tied the game or given the RedHawks the lead. Chad Tracy's 2-run blast on Saturday put the RedHawks in front 6-5. In this series, Mitch Moreland tied the score 5-5 in Monday's ninth with a 2-run shot, Hernan Iribarren snapped a 0-0 tie on Tuesday with a 2-run, inside-the-park homer. Tracy gave OKC the lead for good 2-1 with a tie-breaking solo shot in the sixth yesterday.
DOT...DOT...DOT: Each team turned a double play yesterday...OKC has hit into 11 twin killings while turning 4 in the field...Pedro Strop has stranded all 5 runners inherited from previous pitchers...Strop leads the team with 4 relief appearances...Round Rock's hit totals the last two games (5 yesterday, 4 Tuesday) represent the two lowest by an OKC opponent this season...the RedHawks have not been out-hit this year...they have collected more hits than the opposition five times (3-2) and had an even hit total twice (1-1)....after stealing 1 base in its first 4 games, OKC has swiped bases in 3 straight (5 SB in last 3 games).
