The Iowa Cubs picked up their second consecutive win, defeating the Memphis Redbirds, 7-5, Thursday afternoon at Principal Park.

Iowa tallied 11 hits, seven of those being for extra bases. Darwin Barney led off the Cubs' offense with a single and Jim Adduci followed with a walk. Micah Hoffpauir drove in a run with an RBI groundout before Jason Dubois blasted a two-run home run to left field. It was Dubois' third homer of the year and the Cubs led 3-0 after the first inning.

In his first hit of the 2010 campaign, Welington Castiillo doubled and drove in Marquez Smith in the second inning. In his next at-bat Castillo hit a solo shot to extend Iowa's lead, 7-2. Castillo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Darwin Barney and Brad Snyder also posted two hits in the win.

Memphis attempted a late rally in the sixth inning, scoring three runs on a homer by Amaury Cazabna to edge the Cubs' 7-5.

Iowa's starting pitcher Thomas Diamond (1-0, 2.70) struck out five, while giving up two hits and two runs to pick up his first win of the year. John Gaub earned the save, throwing a scoreless ninth inning. Rich Hill (1-1, 6.55) was tagged with the loss for Memphis. Hill gave up 10 hits and allowed seven runs in five innings.

The Iowa Cubs travel to Nashville Friday to begin an eight-game roadtrip.
