SAC puts up two crooked innings en route to a 12-2 win over Grizz

The Sacramento River Cats (42-55) cruised to a 12-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies (55-41) Wednesday night from Chukchansi Park. River Cats starter Casey Kelly (9-7) enjoyed the win after seven strong innings. He was charged with one run (earned), on three hits, two walks while fanning 10. On the other hand, Fresno starter Cy Sneed (8-5) took the loss. He allowed eight runs (earned), on eight hits, while walking a pair and whiffing two in four frames.

Sacramento scampered out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third. First, Peter Bourjos (4-for-6) lined a double down the left field line, plating Trevor Brown. Bourjos would waltz home on a Miguel Gomez (3-for-5) RBI single. Then, Gomez came around to score on a double to right by Mac Williamson (2-for-5). Finally, a sacrifice fly to center by Ryder Jones netted Chris Shaw (3-for-4).

A nine-batter, six-run top of the fifth expanded the River Cats advantage to 10-0. Shaw spanked a double to center, knocking in a pair. Then, Williamson destroyed a pitch to left field. The two-run shot was his 11th big fly of the season. Two hitters later, Jerry Sands (3-for-5) matched Williamson with a two-run blast himself to the left-center gap.

Yordan Alvarez cranked a solo longball to right-center field in the bottom of the seventh to end the shutout. It was his second clout since joining Triple-A.

Williamson would pick up his fourth RBI of the night with a groundout to second in the visitor's half of the eighth, making it 11-1 Sacramento.

Nick Tanielu cut the deficit to nine in the bottom of the eighth with a groundout to second, adding Derek Fisher.

Sands lengthened the lead to 12-2 in the top of the ninth when he clubbed his second four-bagger of the night to left field. Both of his homers on the year came in this ballgame. A double-digit advantage would be enough for Manny Parra to whiff the side and close out the 12-2 victory. The River Cats offense finished with 18 hits and the staff fanned 14.

With 10 strikeouts on the evening, the Grizzlies staff has punched out a PCL-best 929 batters on the season, 103 more than second-place Memphis (826).

Both teams finish the series Thursday night from Chukchansi Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT. Fresno RHP Mike Hauschild (7-6, 4.71) and Sacramento righty Shaun Anderson (0-0, 0.00) are the probable matchup.
