Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Oklahoma City - The New Orleans Baby Cakes overcame an early deficit Thursday night to defeat the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 4-2, in the series finale between the teams at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Dodgers as they completed their season series against New Orleans. Despite Thursday's defeat, Oklahoma City won this week's series, 3-2, and took the season series, 9-7.

Oklahoma City (52-42) built a 2-0 lead in the game, marking the ninth time in the last 10 games the Dodgers scored first against their opponent.

Angelo Mora singled to lead off the first inning for the Dodgers and Edwin RÃ-os followed with a double. Still with none out, Kyle Farmer connected on a RBI groundout to bring home Mora and Alex Verdugo hit a RBI single to score RÃ-os for a 2-0 Oklahoma City advantage.

Verdugo finished the night with two hits to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, going 20-for-43 during the stretch with six multi-hit outings.

After the first two batters of the fourth inning reached for the Baby Cakes, Austin Dean lined a RBI single into center field to cut the Dodgers' lead to 2-1. The Baby Cakes loaded the bases with two outs later in the inning, but Dodgers starting pitcher Logan Bawcom got Austin Nola to ground out to end the inning.

The Baby Cakes (46-52) took the lead in the fifth inning on a two-run single into left field by Eric Campbell for a 3-2 edge. Campbell advanced to second base on the throw.

Dean followed and grounded out. Dodgers first baseman RÃ-os then threw the ball toward third base to try to nab Campbell, but his throw went into the OKC dugout, allowing Campbell to score for a 4-2 New Orleans lead.

New Orleans starting pitcher Jeff Brigham (1-0) pitched seven strong innings, holding the Dodgers to two runs and eight hits. He allowed just one walk and recorded five strikeouts. Baby Cakes relievers Joe Gunkel and Jumbo Diaz followed with two scoreless frames, as Diaz recorded his seventh save with New Orleans.

After allowing a leadoff triple, Bawcom retired nine straight New Orleans batters in his first game with Oklahoma City since 2016. Bawcom (0-1) went on to allow four runs (three earned) and six hits over 5.1 innings with three walks and five strikeouts and was charged with the loss.

Oklahoma City relievers Edward Paredes and Corey Copping kept the Baby Cakes off the scoreboard for the final three innings as the Dodgers outhit New Orleans, 9-8.

The Dodgers next travel to Nashville to play a four-game series over three days at First Tennessee Park starting with a 7:05 p.m. game Friday.
