Ryan Garko Named to IL Post Season All-Star Team

The International League announced today that Buffalo Bisons catcher/first baseman Ryan Garko has been selected to the league's Post-Season All-Star Team as the top utility player. Garko received votes at catcher, first base and designated hitter.

In 124 games with the Bisons this season, Garko, 24, has hit .306 (136-444) while ranking in the top five on the team in hits (1st -136), doubles (4th -24), home runs (T2nd-19), RBI, (3rd -76), runs scored (T3rd - 73), slugging percentage (2nd - .502) and on-base percentage (2nd -.385). His batting average is currently 12th in the IL, while his on-base percentage is good for 5th in the league. Garko also leads the Bisons with 45 multi-hit games. A mid-season All-Star at catcher, Garko hit two home runs on June 1 against Toledo and homered on consecutive days twice this year. (June 9-10 against Syracuse, August 13-14 against Ottawa).

Garko was the Cleveland Indians 2004 Minor League Player of the Year as he combined to hit .330 (142-430) with 22 home runs and 99 RBI between Single-A Kinston, Double-A Akron and the Bisons. He joined the Herd with five games left in the regular season and started every playoff game for Buffalo at first base. A standout collegiate player at Stanford from 2000-2003, Garko became just the sixth player in school history to hit .400 in 2003. He won the Johnny Bench Award as the nation's top catcher that season.
