Ottawa Lynx News Release
Lynx starter Dave Borkowski went 6.0 solid innings and Tim Raines Jr. drove home three runs as the Ottawa Lynx defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox 5-2 on Tuesday night. Borkowski worked out of trouble in the first, giving up one unearned run, before shutting the PawSox down for the next five innings. The win is Borkowski's 10th of the season, making him only the fourth pitcher in Lynx history to win 10 or more games.
The win improves Ottawa's record to 67-71 on the season.
Lynx Player of the Game: Lynx starter Dave Borkowski picked up his 10th win of the year, giving up no earned runs and four hits in 6.0 innings of work.
Recap: The game did not start well for the Lynx as a hit by pitch, a base hit, an error, a passed ball and a walk left the Lynx down 1-0 to Pawtucket with the bases loaded and nobody out. Dave Borkowski worked out of the jam without giving up another run, setting the tone for the evening's game. The Lynx picked up their starter in the bottom of the second, scoring three times. Midre Cummings walked to lead off and moved to second on a Keith Reed single. One out later Ed Rogers singled to right to load the bases, setting the stage for Bernie Castro. Castro responded by bouncing a single to left to score Cummings and even the game at 1-1. Tim Raines Jr. followed Castro with a line drive to center, scoring Reed and Rogers to put Ottawa up 3-1. The Lynx added another run in the 4th, when Rogers singled, moved to second on a groundout and scored on Raines Jr.'s second hit and third RBI of the game. The Lynx would add an insurance run in the 7th on a Mike Moriarty homer (his fourth of the year) to jump ahead 5-1, before the PawSox tallied a single in the top of the 9th to conclude the scoring in a 5-2 Ottawa win.
Next Game: The Lynx welcome the Buffalo Bisons tomorrow for the first game of a four game series with first pitch of games one scheduled for 7:05 pm.
Probable Pitchers: Wednesday vs. Buffalo, 7:05 pm Ottawa RHP Chuck Smith (0-7, 5.56) vs. Buffalo RHP Jason Davis (8-4, 4.18)
