Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons close out their 2005 home schedule with the finale of a two-game set against the Rochester Red Wings at Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m.). Last night, the Bisons defeated the Red Wings, 5-4, for their sixth straight victory. The win gives the Herd a five-game lead in the International League North division over the Wings with only seven games to play. That means the Bisons magic number to clinch the division is now 3. Looking to move one step closer to a title, the Bisons will send out LHP Jason Stanford and RHP Fausto Carmona tonight. Stanford will start as he continues to work back from reconstructive arm surgery last season. He will be piggybacked by Carmona, who won his last outing with five innings against Syracuse on Thursday. Rochester will counter with LHP Francisco Liriano. Liriano, who has 100+ strikeouts in both Double-A and Triple-A this year, won his seventh straight decision with seven innings Thursday against Ottawa.

800 AT DTP: Last night's win was the Bisons 800th at Dunn Tire Park. Heading into this season, the Herd was 730-489 at home since 1988 with an additional 25-11 record in the playoffs. Monday's win was the Bisons league-high 45th home win on the season, giving them an overall Dunn Tire Park record of 800-527 (.603 winning percentage).

100-HITS: Joe Inglett recorded his 100th hit of the season last night, the 8th Bison batter to reach that plateau this year. Ryan Garko has the overall team lead with 136 hits. Inglett now has 17 hits in his last 32 at-bats, good for a .531 batting average. If Inglett had 26 more plate appearances on the season, his .328 average would qualify for 3rd best in the IL.

EVERYONE HITS: Each hitter in the Bisons starting lineup got a hit on Monday against Rochester and on Sunday in Scranton. During their six-game winning streak, the Herd has scored 54 runs (9/game) on 86 hits (14.3/game). Overall, the team has averaged .371 (86-232) in the last six days.

RBI MACHINE: Jason Cooper collected his 50th Bisons RBI this season with an opposite field single last night. Added to the 42RBI he picked up in the first two months of the season with Double-A Akron, he now leads the entire Cleveland Indians organization with 92RBI. He is also second with 25 home runs behind only Akron's Ryan Mulhern (31).

THRUWAY SERIES: With their victory last night, the Bisons (14-15) have pulled to within a game of the Rochester Red Wings (15-14) for first in the 2005 Thruway Cup Standings. The Syracuse SkyChiefs (14-14) are also in the mix, just a half game out.
