Dublin, OH - The International League today announced Durham Bulls shortstop B.J. Upton was named to the 2005 Post-Season All-Star Team. Upton was voted the all-star shortstop by members of the media, coaches and front office staff.

Upton, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2002 June Draft, currently leads the International League with 158 hits and is among league leaders in several more offensive categories, including stolen bases (2nd, 43), extra-base hits (T-4th, 58), doubles (3rd, 35), on-base percentage (3rd, .391) and runs scored (2nd, 91). The 21-year old was also the starting shortstop in the 2005 Triple-A All-Star Game and the 2005 All-Star Futures Game. Prior to Sunday's game against the Richmond Braves, Upton was named the Durham Bulls Team MVP.

Prior to the 2005 season, Upton was recognized as the No. 1 overall prospect in minor league baseball by Baseball America. He became the youngest player in the majors last season and youngest Tampa Bay Devil Ray ever when he made his major league debut on August 1st at 19 years, 11 months, 10 days old. Upton also became the first teenager to homer in a major league game since the LA Dodgers' Adrian Beltre accomplished the feat in 1999 and joined the likes of Jonny Bench (1967), Robin Yount (1974-75), Gary Sheffield (1988), Ken Griffey Jr. (1989), and Alex Rodriguez (1995) to hit a home run in the majors as a teenager.
