
Rush Power Past Thunder

RAPID CITY, SD- The Wichita Thunder lost 6-4 to the Rapid City Rush at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Wednesday night. Wichita grabbed an early lead with a power play goal at 5:57 in the first. Jason Reese popped a rebound over Miguel Beaudry's right shoulder after a shot from the point by Chris McAllister. The Rush tied it at 12:23 when Brendan Hodge cut around the crease and beat Ian Keserich with a backhander to the right.
Tomas Klempa gave Wichita its second lead of the night at 5:18 in the second. Klempa's close range shot managed its way through Beaudry's five-hole and just crossed the goal line. It marked the fourth consecutive game that Klempa has scored a goal. Rapid City moved in front on a pair of power play goals from Jamie Vanderveeken. At 8:07 on a two-man advantage, Vanderveeken connected on a one-timer to the left of Keserich. 52 seconds later on a five-on-four power play, Vanderveeken lifted a shot from the left halfboards that cleared the long side of the net. Joel Hanson tied the game at 4-4 at 12:40, deking Beaudry to the front of the crease before backhanding the puck behind him. The Rush regained the lead at 16:56 when Rich Hansen's shot took a bad bounce off of Keserich inside the right post.
Rapid City broke the game open with two goals in the third. Scott Wray knocked in a loose puck on the backdoor on a power play at 2:08 to make it 5-3 Rapid city. Dave Grimson ripped a shot past Keserich from the left circle at 9:18. Neil Clark pulled the Thunder within two at 13:11, battling for a rebound in front of the crease before chipping it over Beaudry's back, but the Thunder could not move any closer.
Keserich stopped 44 of 50 in the loss, while Beaudry was 35 of 39 in the win. The Thunder went 2 for 7 on the power play. Rapid City was 3 for 5.
