Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Loveland, CO) - The Colorado Eagles scored three goals in a 2:15 span during the third period to pick up a 6-3 win over the Odessa Jackalopes on Wednesday night at the Budweiser Events Center in front of a sold out crowd of 5,289.
The offensive outburst by Colorado began just eleven seconds after Brian Swiniarski gave Odessa a 3-2 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Ryan Tobler started the three-goal run before Aaron Schneekloth added a pair of goals. Riley Nelson had an assist on all three of the goals.
The Jackalopes opened up the scoring with the first period's only goal. Kenny Bernard deflected a Mike Ramsay shot from the point for a power play goal at 5:24. Dominic Leveille also had an assist.
Both teams exchanged goals in period two as Jeff Pierce gave Odessa a 2-0 lead with a power play goal at 2:19 for his 26th of the season. Ed McGrane then put Colorado on the board with his first of two goals on a 2-on-1 rush along side Ryan McLeod. The score was 2-1, Odessa, after two periods of play.
McGrane's second goal came at 10:34 of the third period to knot the game at two goals a piece, setting up Swiniarski's go-ahead marker and the Eagles outburst. Brett Lutes also added an empty net goal for Colorado in the final minute to cement the final score at 6-3.
The Jackalopes finish the season series losing three of their four meetings with the Eagles. Joel Martin was 24 of 25 in net for the Jackalopes before being pulled due to injury early in the third period. Juha Toivonen was 10 of 14 in replacement duty for the Jacks and took the loss.
Bernard's power play goal now makes it 16 straight games the Jackalopes have scored on the man-advantage, one shy of tying their season high.
The Jackalopes return home for a three-game set beginning on Friday when they host the Corpus Christi IceRays in the final meeting of the season between the two teams. Game time is 7:05 PM at the Ector County Coliseum. The action can be heard on Classic Rock 102.1 FM.
