Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - It was a sold out pink house Friday night as the Rapid City Rush and the Bloomington Blaze hit the ice in the 5th Annual 'Pink at the Rink' which raised over $10,800 in support of the fight against cancer. The Rush offense blazed the way with goals from Jesse Schultz, Jamie VanderVeeken, Jared Brown and Winston Day Chief while Danny Battochio turned aside 28 en route to a 4-1 win. The triumph marks the first three-game win streak for the Rush who have won five of their last six overall. The Rush are back in action tomorrow night, February 23rd, in a rematch against the Bloomington Blaze. Tickets are available at gotmine.com or by calling 716-7825.
The ice tilted in both directions throughout the first period as Jesse Schultz deflected in the opening goal for the Rush off a shot from Jamie VanderVeeken at 13:17. The Blaze responded in a hurry as Brayden Metz would hit the equalizer just over a minute later. However, the Rush offense was relentless with VanderVeeken scoring his sixth goal of the season reclaiming the lead for the Rush by the first intermission.
After a second period dominated by defense, the Rush offense came alive in the third as Jared Brown would extend the Rush lead with a rebound goal 6:25 into the period. The scoring wouldn't stop there for the Rush as Winston Day Chief tallied his fifth goal of the season just 1:12 later sealing the 4-1 victory.
Danny Battochio ended the night with 28 saves on 29 shots.
