February 23, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Allen Americans News Release

Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans won a battle for first place in the Central Hockey League downing the Wichita Thunder 2-1 at Allen Event Center.

The Americans opened the scoring in the first when Chris Doyle made a no-look back hand pass to Jamie Schaafsma in front of the Wichita net for his 21st goal of the season. Schaafsma leads the team in goals this year. Wichita outshot Allen 6-5 after one period.

After a scoreless second period, the two teams exchanged scoring chances in the third with both netminders standing strong. It wasn't until the 8:52 mark when Neil Trimm put one in the Allen net to tie the score at 1-1. Ian Lowe and Andrew Martens drew the assists. The Americans would tie the game less than a minute later on a tic-tac-toe play from Maiani to McKenzie to Lukin who tipped one into the open net for his 14th goal of the season, and second in as many games. It was Jarret Lukin's 68th career goal with Allen, passing Colton Yellow Horn into second place on the all-time goal scoring list for the Americans. Lukin's goal would turn out to be the game winner in a 2-1 Allen victory.

"It was a big win for us tonight," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. "We are in a dog fight for first place right now, sometimes that's good thing going down the stretch to keep you focused. Now we have got to get ready for Fort Worth tomorrow night, which is never easy. We have to get after them early and be as physical as we can be."

The Allen Americans travel to Fort Worth tomorrow night at 7:30 to meet the Brahmas. The Americans next home game is Sunday afternoon at 4:05 pm. Tickets on sale at the Allen Event Center box office or online at www.allenamericans.com.
