GLENDALE, AZ - The Central Hockey League would like to recognize referee Steve Cruickshank who worked his 1,000th professional game on Saturday night in Missouri at the Independence Events Center in the Mavs 5-4 shootout win over the Wichita Thunder.
The Paris, Ontario native and current Little Rock, Arkansas resident has worked more CHL and WPHL (Western Professional Hockey League) games than any other official. He began his pro career 15 years ago working in West Texas in the WPHL.
"We are proud to honor Steve for this milestone and for all his hard work," said Duane Lewis, CHL Commissioner. "As a league, we realize Steve is one of a kind and know that all the young officials he has mentored over the years appreciate the time and dedication he has put into his profession."
Prior to Saturday's game, CHL Referee-in-Chief Bryan Lewis recognized Steve in a pre-game ceremony giving him a National Hockey League sweater signed by all the current NHL officials (courtesy of NHL Senior Vice President and Director of Officiating Terry Gregson) and a framed plaque showcasing his many accomplishments over his past 1,000 games.
Several representative and friends from Steve's hometown of Paris made the trip and presented him with a sweater to sign that will make its way back to the New Sports Complex in Paris to be permanently displayed.
