SEAWOLVES RETURN THE FAVOR , FORCE RUBBER GAME: One night after Binghamton blanked Erie, the SeaWolves surged for a 10-0 win Saturday at NYSEG Stadium. Erie touched Ricky Knapp for six runs in the first two innings, before plating four more in the ninth. LHP Matt Hall struck out a season-best 10 over six innings, allowing just four hits and walk. The first four games of the series have been split two and two.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Justin Dunn prepares for his sixth Double-A start and first against Erie. The 22-year-old gave the Ponie 7.2 innings of two-hit ball on July 3 at Portland in a win. Dunn has tossed at least six innings in each of his first five starts, garnering at least nine strikeouts thrice. Opposing Eastern League batters are hitting just .188 against him.
ANOTHER ONE? The Rumble Ponies play in a decisive fifth game of a series for the second straight set. Binghamton and Portland exchanged wins in the first four games of their series last week, before the Ponies nabbed the rubber match. Binghamton is 5-3 in series-deciders.
HALFWAY THERE: Sunday's game is the final game before the Eastern League All-Star break (7/9 - 7/11). The mid-summer classic will be played at ARM & HAMMER Park in Trenton on Wednesday, July 11 at 7:00 PM.
YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR: Tim Tebow, Levi Michael, Nabil Crismatt, Daniel Zamora, and Patrick Mazeika will represent the Rumble Ponies at the All-Star Classic, hosted by the Trenton Thunder on July 10 & 11. It marks the second straight season Binghamton sends five to the All-Star Game. All five Ponies will enjoy their first trip to the Eastern League All-Star Game. Zamora and Mazeika played in the FSL All-Star Game last year.
SHUTOUT SHOWDOWN: Saturday's result marked the first time this season the Rumble Ponies have played in consecutive shutout games. Binghamton beat Erie 3-0 on Friday evening, before Saturday's 10-0 SeaWolves victory.
HIGHLY TOUTED: Sunday's game is slated to feature a pair pitching prospects ranked highly in their respective organizations. Justin Dunn was the 19th overall pick in 2016, while Kyle Funkhouser was the 35th overall selection by the Dodgers in 2015 (did not sign). According to MLB.com, Dunn is the Mets fourth-best prospect, while Funkhouser ranks seventh in the Tigers system.
SO LONG, FAREWELL: Today is the final time Binghamton and Erie meet in the regular season.
UP NEXT: Binghamton returns to the diamond on Thursday, July 12, following the Eastern League All-Star break. The four-game set at Canal Park in Akron gets started at 7:05 PM.
