Fisher Cats Avoid Sweep

(Manchester, NH) - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (49-38) avoided the series sweep on Sunday afternoon as they defeated the Reading Fightin Phils (41-47) by a score of 14-2. The loss for Reading snapped their five-game winning streak.

Malquin Canelo hit a home run off Fisher Cats starter Jon Harris in the top of the third inning to give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead. The home run was his seventh of the season. New Hampshire answered back with four runs against Fightin Phils starter Franklyn Kilome (3-6) to take a 4-1 lead. Eduard Pinto and Jon Berti hit RBI singles while Harold Ramirez and Juan Kelly hit sacrifice flies.

Zach Green blasted his 17th home run of the season off Harris in the top of the fourth inning to cut New Hampshire's lead to 4-2. Harris left the game due to injury in the top of the fifth inning. Fisher Cats pitcher Nick Hartman (2-1) entered the game to pitch in relief of Harris. He pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three batters.

Kilome allowed four unearned runs in five innings while giving up six hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Gunnar Heidt hit a home run off Fightin Phils pitcher Luke Leftwich in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Fisher Cats a 5-2 lead.

New Hampshire scored nine runs in the bottom of the ninth by sending 15 batters to the plate. Reading used four pitchers in the inning including Heiker Meneses, who recorded the final out of the inning.

Reading is off until Thursday when they will open play against the Bowie Baysox at FirstEnergy Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
