New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, N.H. - Suiting up as the Granite State Mountain Men, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate), snapped a season-high four-game losing streak with a 9-2 win over the Reading Fightin' Phils (Philadelphia Phillies) on Sunday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
An ode to the Old Man of the Mountain, the Granite State Mountain Men was one of the finalists in the 2004 "Name the Team" contest, which saw the New Hampshire Fisher Cats edge out the Manchester Millers, the New Hampshire Granite, and the Granite State Mountain Men in a fan vote.
On Sunday, the Mountain Men fell behind on a solo homer from Malquin Canelo in the top of the third, but stormed back with four runs in the home half. Ryan Hissey started the rally with a double, and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Harold Ramirez. Two walks and an error set up Juan Kelly for a sac fly to put New Hampshire up, 2-1. Eduard Pinto and Jon Berti followed with run-scoring singles to make it 4-1.
Reading got one back with a Zach Green solo homer in the fourth, but Gunnar Heidt matched that blast with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 5-2.
New Hampshire put the game away with a grand slam from Jonathan Davis in the eighth inning, and continued to pile on in the frame, scoring a total of nine runs as 15 batters came to the plate. Reading's pitching staff finished the day with 10 walks.
Harold Ramirez went 3-for-3, Eduard Pinto went 3-for-4, and Gunnar Heidt went 1-for-3 with his second homer of the season.
The Eastern League All-Star Break begins on Monday, with regular season action picking back up on Thursday, July 12 when the Fisher Cats head to Portland for a four-game series with the Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox) for a four-game set.
The Fisher Cats return home for a seven-game homestand on Monday, July 16.
