
Ruiz and Rosario Homer, Viza Looks Sharp, Missions Take Series vs. Hooks

SAN ANTONIO - With a solid debut from Tyler Viza and two home runs from Esteury Ruiz and Eguy Rosario, the Missions were victorious in their series finale against the Hooks. The final score was 3-2.
The Corpus Christ took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Facing Tyler Viza, Corey Julks and Joe Perez hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. After a strikeout, David Hensley drew a walk. Enmanuel Valdez scored Julks with a groundout to Kelvin Melean.
The Missions tied things up in the top of the fourth inning. Eguy Rosario singled to lead off the inning. Allen Cordoba reached base after bunting into a force out. Kyle Overstreet put two runners on after hitting a single to right field. With two outs in the inning, Dwanya Williams-Sutton drew a walk to load the bases. Melean tied the game with an RBI single to center field. On the play, Overstreet was thrown at home.
San Antonio took their first lead of the game in the top of the fifth inning, Esteury Ruiz hit a solo home run to left field. His long ball made it the nineth consecutive game with a home run for the Missions.
The Hooks responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Julks began the inning with a base hit against Viza. After recording two straight outs, Hensley hit an RBI double to left field. It was a 2-2 tie heading into the sixth inning.
The Missions regained the lead in the top of the eighth inning. Facing Layne Henderson, Rosario hit a lead-off home run over the left field wall. His 10th long ball of the season gave the Missions a 3-2 lead.
Tyler Viza recorded a quality start in his first appearance with the Missions. He allowed two earned runs in six innings of work while striking out five batters. Jordan Humphreys recorded his second win of the season and Jose Quezada converted his 12th save of the year.

The San Antonio Missions have a day-off on Monday before beginning a six-game homestand against the Midland RockHounds on Tuesday, August 24th. The pitching matchups have yet to be determined. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
