Heading into Roanoke for the first time this season, Jordan Ruby backstopped the Mayhem to a 26-save shutout and led them to their ninth consecutive win with a 3-0 result.

A slow start was in store for the Mayhem, who found themselves fall behind quickly in the shots on goal department. They tipped the scales before long, generating eight consecutive shots, but Roanoke goaltender Tanner Creel kept the game scoreless. He made an enormous lateral save on a cross-crease pass from John Siemer to Justin Levac at the end of the first period.

The first 20 minutes saw no penalties taken by either side, but things changed drastically in the second period. Total penalty minutes escalated from zero in period one to 14 in period two. One of Roanoke's biggest weaknesses at the start of the season has been their power play, and the Mayhem were rolling on a consistent power play scoring streak.

Brian Rowland went to the penalty box 19 seconds into the second for high-sticking. With just one second remaining on the man-advantage, John Siemer ripped a shot from the left circle, beating Creel and giving the Mayhem a one-goal lead. The strike extended the Mayhem's power play scoring streak to seven games.

Following Siemer's goal, Roanoke peppered the Macon net with shots in an attempt to respond. Ruby was stellar in goal for the Mayhem, stopping all 17 shots he faced in the middle frame.

Ruby's brilliance continued throughout the night. He kept the Rail Yard Dawgs' sharpshooters at bay, allowing the Mayhem to accumulate a Country Financial Insurance lead. From the carryover time on the Wild Wing Café Power Play, Caleb Cameron fired a shot from the slot to score his first goal of the season and give the Mayhem a 2-0 advantage only 40 seconds into the third period.

A dozen minutes later, Cameron made a push for a natural hat trick when he spotted a loose puck beside Creel's net and backhanded it past the rookie net-minder. Cameron's goal virtually put the game out of reach for the Dawgs, who were mostly driven by the chance to spoil Ruby's shutout.

Despite Roanoke's best efforts, the 2017 playoff MVP held his ground and earned his first shutout of the 2018-19 season. He made 26 saves in the process, collecting his sixth consecutive win. Creel was handed his third loss of the season, having made 26 of a possible 29 saves. The Mayhem will host the Knoxville Ice Bears on Saturday, November 17th at the Macon Centreplex on College Football Night. Puck drops at 7:35 pm ET.
