Macon Mayhem News Release

Mayhem Showing Early Signs of Last Championship Season

Two years ago, the Mayhem were in just their second season of operation and were already taking the SPHL by storm. They were in the midst of what would become their longest winning streak in franchise history and went undefeated for nearly an entire month. From October 29th of 2016 until November 26th, the Mayhem broke a record by winning ten consecutive games. No team in the SPHL has been able to surpass that accomplishment since. Now, the Mayhem are a mere two victories away from tying their own historic milestone, with the season still less than a month old.

A 3-2 triumph over the defending champion Huntsville Havoc last Sunday night cemented another magnificent weekend for the Mayhem, who improved to 8-0-1 with the win and a perfect 4-0-0 on the road this season. Macon's road prowess has been pertinent for years now, with their longest road winning streak at a whopping eight games back in 2016. Tonight's matchup, however, will present another unique challenge which the Mayhem have not yet seen this season.

The Matchup

After tonight, the Mayhem will have squared off with more than half of their opponents in the league. The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs have been a middling team so far this season in almost every way. They have a 3-3-0 record, an exactly even goal differential, and have been a middle-of-the-pack squad on the power play. Playing against Roanoke last year, the Mayhem were a rather middling squad themselves. The Rail Yard Dawgs were one of the only teams the Mayhem did not manage a positive head-to-head winning percentage against last season. In 2017-18, the Mayhem were 3-2-2 with a 23-24 (-1) goal differential against Roanoke. The Dawgs are also riding high after sweeping the Evansville Thunderbolts at home last weekend and are undoubtedly looking forward to their third consecutive home game with an opportunity to snap the Mayhem's winning streak.

Power Play Clicking

One of Roanoke's biggest weaknesses this season has been their penalty kill. The Dawgs sit at second to last place in the league on the PK with just a 73.3% success rate. Macon has scored a power play goal in six consecutive games. Though they're still far from the top of the leaderboards in power play percentage, they've finally found a rhythm on the man-advantage and have been producing on it steadily and consistently after going 0-for-13 to start the season. If the Mayhem can draw penalties frequently throughout the night, they will likely be able to cause some headaches for Roanoke's penalty killers.

College Football Night / Cancer Awareness Night

On Saturday, the Mayhem will have another home tilt against the Knoxville Ice Bears on College Football Night, where fans are encouraged to wear the jerseys of their favorite college football players and teams. Next Saturday, November 24th, the Mayhem host the Birmingham Bulls on Cancer Awareness Night. Players will be sporting specialty, one-of-a-kind jerseys in support of cancer awareness. The jerseys will be sold at a live auction in the Macon Centreplex lobby immediately following the game, with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society.

Tonight's game will be broadcast at Margaritas at Mercer Village, the official Away Game Watch Party Partner of the Macon Mayhem. Margaritas has served Macon and Middle Georgia delicious Mexican food and drinks in a fun, festive atmosphere for almost 20 years. The Mercer Village location is at 1602 Montpelier Avenue in Macon.
