Akron RubberDucks News Release

Binghamton righthander Gabriel Ynoa threw 7.0 innings of shutout baseball. B-Mets relievers slammed the door on a 2-0 shutout victory over the Akron RubberDucks Saturday afternoon at Canal Park.

Turning Point

The B-Mets (2-1) secured a critical insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when Gavin Cecchini was picked off of first base, but advanced to second on a throwing error by RubberDucks first baseman Jake Lowery. Cecchini then came around to score on an RBI single by Albert Cordero making the score 2-0.

Mound Presence

Ynoa (1-0) held the RubberDucks (1-2) to just five hits in his seven innings of work. He did not walk a batter and retired three batters via the strikeout. Ynoa picked up his first win of the young season and Paul Sewald recorded his first save.

Duck Tales

RubberDucks starter Shawn Morimando threw 5.0 scoreless innings and struck out five batters in his season debut. Reliever Trey Haley got the loss after allowing a run in the sixth inning on a hit batter, a walk and RBI single by Cecchini. Reliever Jacob Lee was impressive in his season debut tossing a pair of scoreless, hitless innings. Centerfielder Todd Hankins had two hits for the RubberDucks raising his season average to .357.

Notes

For the second consecutive game the RubberDucks failed to put a run on the board. First baseman Jake Lowery made his second error of the season in the top ninth inning, which led to an unearned run and an insurance run for the B-Mets, making it 2-0. The RubberDucks left 13 runners on base and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Second baseman Hankins made a seamless transition to the centerfield and made several very nice plays. Time of game was 2:37...Attendance: 3,257.
