New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - With a full count and two outs in the bottom of the tenth, Matt Newman drew a bases-loaded walk to send the Fisher Cats to a 5-4 win over the New Britain Rock Cats on Saturday evening. The victory is the team's second straight to open the 2015 season.
After being shut out on Friday night, the Rock Cats scored first on Saturday, netting an RBI double from Pat Valaika in the second inning. The Fisher Cats answered right back in the bottom when Newman singled home Melky Mesa.
Three straight hits put New Britain back on top, 2-1, in the third, but the Fisher Cats were up to the rally in the bottom of the inning. Dwight Smith Jr. singled home Jon Berti to knot it at 2. He then scored when K.C. Hobson sliced a double to the gap in left-center for a 3-2 Fisher Cats lead.
It stayed that way until the fifth when New Britain pulled even once more with Noel Cuevas' sac fly against starter Taylor Cole (ND). An inning later, Hobson re-took the lead for the Fisher Cats when he blasted his second homer of the season over the wall in right.
The Fisher Cats held their 4-3 lead into the ninth when Cory Burns (W; 1-0) ran into trouble. He allowed one-out single before Trevor Story delivered a two-out double to send the game into extra innings.
In the extra frame, the Rock Cats loaded the bases up, but could not score. New Hampshire would do the same, but took advantage of the opportunity. With a pair of walks and a hit batter filling the bases, Newman worked the final walk against Justin Miller (L; 0-1) to send the Fisher Cats home happy.
Newman finished the game 1-4 with two more runs batted in. Hobson has four hits, including two home runs, and four runs batted in over the first two games of the season.
The teams wrap up the series with a doubleheader at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. It's Pajama Day as we celebrate the Fisher Cats Reading Challenge presented by Velcro USA Inc. After the game kids run the bases thanks to the Buyers Beware Program. Tickets are available by visiting www.nhfishercats.com, stopping by the Fisher Cats ticket office, or by calling (603) 641-2005.

Coverage with Tom Gauthier begins at 1:15 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and at www.nhfishercats.com.
