Harrisburg Senators News Release
A four-run eighth inning lifted the Harrisburg Senators to a 4-1 win over the Altoona Curve Friday night in front of 5,264 fans at Metro Bank Park. The Senators improved to 2-1 on the year - the first time Harrisburg has been over .500 since the end of the 2013 season.
Harrisburg was again aided by the defensive miscues of Altoona, which committed three errors in the bottom of the eighth inning. Delta Cleary Jr. began the inning by reaching on an error. Tony Renda followed with an infield single, and Matt Skole tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI double down the left field line. It appeared Harrisburg would take a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Keyes who hit a fly ball into the right-center field gap. Instead, Altoona right fielder Stetson Allie dropped the ball on the run, allowing Renda to score without a throw. Skole moved to third and Keyes hustled to second. The Senators then added two more when pinch hitter Stephen Perez hit a ground ball that went through the legs of Altoona first baseman Josh Bell.
Senators starter Paolo Espino continued a trend of outstanding Harrisburg pitching by turning in six scoreless innings. Espino, who did not allow a hit in the first five frames, struck out four. Gilberto Mendez followed by striking out the side in the seventh inning. However, between the three strikeouts, Allie hit a solo home run off Mendez. Following the Senators' four-run eighth inning, Abel De Los Santos locked down Altoona in the ninth to pick up his first save of the season.
Tomorrow afternoon, Harrisburg and Altoona will finish a four-game series with first pitch at 1:30 p.m. Taking the mound for Harrisburg in his Senators debut will be Tim Alderson. Altoona will counter with right hander Chad Kuhl. The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 1:15 p.m. on 1460 AM Fox Sports Harrisburg or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
