Akron RubberDucks News Release
Tyler Naquin had three hits, and Yandy Diaz slugged his first AA homer, but the Akron RubberDucks dropped a 6-2 decision against the New Britain Rock Cats Sunday afternoon in the series finale at New Britain Stadium.
Turning Point
New Britain's Mike Tauchman had four hits and three RBI, including a pair of key, RBI doubles in the sixth and eighth innings, as the Rock Cats tallied key insurance runs to extend their lead from 2-1, to 6-2.
Mound Presence
Right-hander Shane Carle (6-4) allowed a first-inning run, but nothing thereafter in picking up his sixth win of the year. Mike Clevinger (3-3) started for Akron and absorbed the loss despite allowing just two runs over five innings. Clevinger set a new season-high with eight strikeouts, and left trailing 2-1. The Rock Cats (33-22) tallied two runs each off Jacob Lee and Trey Haley in the late innings.
Duck Tales
Naquin had a lead-off double in the first and scored on a base hit by Diaz. Naquin finished the game, 3-4, and extended his hitting streak to 12 straight games. Diaz walloped his first AA homer in the eighth inning off New Britain closer Shane Broyles, a solo shot that made it 4-2, at the time. Bryson Myles was hitless in three at-bats, snapping his 12-game hitting streak. Anthony Gallas had a pair of singles.
Notes
Right-hander Zach Nuding made his Akron and Indians organization debut with a scoreless inning of relief in the eighth...The RubberDucks finished 3-3 on the road trip...It was the final regular season meeting with the Rock Cats and the final regular season game the RubberDucks will ever play at New Britain Stadium...The Rock Cats are relocating to a new ballpark in Hartford, Connecticut next season... After an off-day Monday, the RubberDucks (26-29) will return to Canal Park for a three-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beginning Tuesday night at 7:05.
