Trenton Thunder News Release
The Thunder scored three times in the bottom of the first inning and Eric Wooten turned in a quality start as the Thunder (33-24) won their eighth straight game and completed a sweep of the Harrisburg Senators (22-33) with a 5-2 win at ARM & HAMMER Park.
Working against MLB rehab Sammy Solis, the Thunder offense got right to work in the bottom of the first. Jake Cave led off with a single and Yankee rehab Brendan Ryan doubled down the left field line to put two runners in scoring position. After Greg Bird brought in Cave with a groundout, Aaron Judge tripled to right-center to take a 2-0 lead. Just one pitch later, Judge scored on a passed ball to take a 3-0 lead.
Harrisburg grabbed two runs of their own in the top of the second when Pedro Severino doubled to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Aaron Judge sturck again in the bottom of the second with an RBI single that scored Jake Cave to take a 4-2 lead.
Cito Culver cranked his second home run of the year in the bottom of the third. The swing broke a string of 139 at-bats between home runs for Culver.
The five runs of support was all that Eric Wooten needed to grab his first run of the season with the Thunder. Wooten went six innings and surrendered six hits and one walk on Sunday afternoon. Johnny Barbato, Nick Goody and Mark Montgomery combined to allow three hits and strike out three to finish the win.
Jake Cave completed the series with another two-hit game. He went 6-for-12 with five runs scored and a triple in the series and is now batting .466 (14-for-30) in seven games against Harrisburg this season.
Your Thunder will continue their six-game homestand on Tuesday night when the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers) come to town for a three-game set. The Thunder will send LHP Miguel Sulbaran (3-3, 4.33), the SeaWolves starter is to be announced. It's Dollar Dog Night at the ballpark, presented by Black Bear Franks and Kids Eat Free; presented by A Future With Hope. Tickets can be ordered online at Trentonthunder.com/tickets or by phone at 609-394-3300.
