Summary ToddHankinsblasted a grand slam and a two-run homer to finish with six RBI Friday night,highlighting Akron's most prolific offensive display of the season, as theRubberDucks crushed the Portland Sea Dogs, 18-2, in the opener of a three-gameweekend series at Canal Park.
TurningPoint Alreadyleading, 30, the RubberDucks (59-60) loaded the bases with no one out in thefourth inning against Jacob Dahlstrand (2-2). Hankins jumped on a first-pitch fastballand lined a grand slam to left field to make it 7-0. It was the first of twohomers on the night for Hankins and his first career grand slam.
WingingIt RobKaminsky startedand worked six innings to pick up the win for Akron. He allowed only sevenhits, including a two-run homer by Portland's Cody Decker in the sixth inning.That homer snapped a 16-inning scoreless streak for Kaminsky (7-7). He walkedtwo and struck out five, and lowered his season ERA to 3.50. Louis Head worked two perfect inning ofrelief, striking out three, and Casey Weathers finished up with a scoreless ninth.
DuckTales Hankinsfinished4-5 on the night. He also slugged a two-run homer in the seventh off Ben Taylorto make it 11-2. Hankins now has nine homers and 50 RBI on the year. NellieRodriguezwas 2-5, with a two-run double in the sixth and a three-run homer in theeighth. He increased his team-leading totals to 21 homers and 72 RBI. JordanSmithwent 3-6, including a two-run double in the third inning when Akron jumped outto a 3-0 lead. Eric Stamets was 3-4 with four runs scored. Joe Sever celebrated his 26thbirthday by collecting three singles and a walk. Luigi Rodriguez had three stolen bases.
Notebook TheRubberDucks pounded out a season-high 20 hits...Every Akron starter had at leastone hit and seven of the nine had at least one RBI...The Ducks gained a game onHarrisburg, who lost at home against Binghamton, 7-3, and are now just 3.5games out of the EL West wild card with 23 games left...Time of game: 3:04...Attendance: 7,674.
