
Fightins Fall to Curve in Altoona

Altoona, Pa - The Altoona Curve (65-52) defeated the Fightin Phils (77-40) 7-2 on Friday night in Reading's first visit to People's Natural Gas Field this season. Reading now has 156 home runs as a team. They trail by two home runs in tying the team record (158 - 2004).
Reading took a 1-0 lead against Clay Holmes (10-7) and the Curve in the top of the second. Dylan Cozens scored on a fielder's choice and RBI from Mitch Walding. Altoona tied the game at 1-1 off Mark Leiter Jr. (5-2) in the bottom of the third. Elvis Escobar led off the inning with a triple then scored on a single by Erich Weiss.
The Curve scored two more runs off Leiter Jr. in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Chris Stewart on rehab from the Pittsburgh Pirates, hit a RBI single and Barrett Barnes scored on a throwing error by Jorge Alfaro. Barnes hit a two-run home run off Leiter Jr. in the bottom of the fifth to extend Altoona's lead to 5-1.
Erich Weiss hit a two-run home run off Mario Hollands in the bottom of the sixth to give Altoona a 7-1 lead. It was the third home run given up by Hollands this season. Jimmy Cordero pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. Miguel Nunez pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. He recorded two strikeouts.
Mitch Walding hit his second AA home run in the top of the ninth. It was a solo home run off Curve reliever Jared Laking in the top of the ninth to cut Altoona's lead to 7-2.
The Fightin Phils will continue their series at People's Natural Gas Stadium in Altoona, PA with the Curve on Saturday night. Fans can listen to the game on Sports Radio AM 1240/FM 98.5 and fightins.com beginning at 5:30 pm. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
