Aquino Solid in Shutout Loss
August 12, 2016 - Eastern League (EL1)
Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Jason Aquino worked seven strong innings, but Bowie's bats fell silent in a 4-0 shutout loss Friday night in Richmond. Richmond's Ryder Jones two-run home run in the second inning was the lone blemish for Aquino on the night.
Flying Squirrels starter Matt Gage worked in Bowie last Saturday allowing seven runs in two-plus innings. He was focused and in control from the beginning on this evening. Gage worked with two outs and nobody aboard in seven of his eight scoreless innings. The Baysox did not get a runner into scoring position in the game, mustering just five singles.
Up 2-0, Richmond extended their lead off of Baysox reliever Stefan Crighton with consecutive doubles to open the inning from CJ Hinojosa and Chris Shaw. Both would score in the frame to double the Richmond lead to 4-0.
Prior to the game the Orioles sent Baysox outfielder Conor Bierfeldt to Advanced-A Frederick and activated OF Tucker Nathans from the disabled list. Julio Borbon was thrown out of the game arguing a call on the bases in the eighth inning. Aquino fell to 5-10 on the year with the tough luck loss.
The series continues Saturday, August 13th at 6:05 p.m. with Jason Garcia looking for consecutive wins on the hill. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior on 1430-AM WNAV and on 99.9 FM in Annapolis.
The Baysox return home to pickup a previous scheduled series for the road with the Hartford Yard Goats from Tuesday, August 16 to Thursday, August 18. For tickets and info on the series call 301-805-6000 or head online to baysox.com.
