Reading Royals News Release
READING, PA â The Reading Royals and Las Vegas Wranglers will meet for the first time ever tomorrow night in the Sovereign Center. The Wranglers are the second opponent from the Western Conference to invade the Jungle this season and the first team from the Pacific Division. The Royals and Wranglers will meet on back-to-back nights, Friday and Saturday. Las Vegas posts one of the best home records in the league this season at 7-0-1. They are one of just five ECHL clubs that are undefeated in regulation on home ice. Las Vegas currently is in first place in the Pacific Division with a record of 9-4-3. Greg Day leads the club with 22 points and currently is tied for fourth in the ECHL scoring race. He leads the league in assists with 18. Ex-Royal Jon Shockey leads the club in penalty minutes with 50. After this weekend, Reading will play one more Western Conference team at home in the Sovereign Center. The Royals meet the Bakersfield Condors on Saturday, February 21.
The Reading Royals have announced that rookie forward and leading scorer David Masse has been recalled by the Hershey Bears. Masse was loaned to the Bears on November 5 and in turn signed an American Hockey League contract with Hershey. He has appeared in one game with the AHL club on November 5 and led the team in shots in a win over St. John's, 7-3. Masse has five goals and 16 points in 13 games with the Royals this season. He leads the team in assists, points and plus/minus rating (+6).
The Manchester Monarchs have reassigned goaltender Mathieu Chouinard to the Reading Royals. Chouinard, 23, injured his groin on October 25 while playing against the Hartford Wolf Pack. The 6-foot-1, 211-pound native of Boisbriand, Quebec, has appeared in seven games this season with the Monarchs, posting a 2-1-0 record, a 2.24 goals-against-average and a .913 save-percentage. He has appeared in 72 career games with the Monarchs, the Binghamton Senators (AHL), the Grand Rapid Griffins (AHL) and the Peoria Rivermen (ECHL), recording a 42-21-2 record, a 2.45 goals-against-average and a .906 save-percentage.
Chouinard was originally selected by the Ottawa Senators in the first-round (15th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He re-entered the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and was again selected by Ottawa in the second-round (45th overall). The Los Angeles Kings signed Chouinard as an unrestricted free agent on July 7, 2003.
The Royals have also announced that they have waived forward Peter Bournazakis. Bournazakis was acquired from the Pensacola Ice Pilots along with defenseman Pete Summerfelt for defenseman Aaron Gionet. He did not appear in a game with Reading.
